Merchants & Retailers

This is the start of something big.

Like the advent of EFTPOS, there’s a huge opportunity to catch the first wave of Semble customers, securing your place in the public imagination and history. From day one, Semble will be used for contactless payments. As more services are added–gift cards, coupons, loyalty schemes and others–it’s going to mean more and more to your business.

Terminals and hardware.

Already using contactless payment terminals? Then you’re good to go. Just ensure the contactless function is turned on (your bank can tell you how). If your terminals aren't contactless, talk to your provider. Their contact details should be located on a sticker on the terminal.

Training.

Although Semble is going to mark a big step forward, it won’t involve huge changes or training for you or your staff. In fact, it works almost exactly like the contactless plastic cards customers increasingly use today (MasterCard PayPass, Visa payWave). Customers paying with Semble will have loaded virtual bank cards into their Semble app and they hold the phone against the payment terminal just like a card.

Here's how Semble compares to paying with plastic cards:
Action Plastic cards Semble
Customer swipes card/phone through terminal Only non-chip cards No
Customer dips or inserts card/phone into terminal Only chip cards No
Hold card/phone to terminal Yes, if contactless card Yes
Customer enters PIN on pin pad If contactless card, only for transactions $80 or over.
If non-contactless card, yes.

Helping customers.

Just like any new technology, it can take a few goes to master paying with Semble. Here’s some advice we give on using Semble including how to pay and how to hold the phone over the terminal.
