Hold the back of your phone close and steady to the payment terminal. There are heaps of different phones and terminals out there so you'll need to work out where that 'sweet spot' is.

Occassionally an error may occur while you are using Semble.  Here are a couple of tips to try and resolve the issue:

  • Close Semble, making sure it's not still running in the background, and then open it again.
  • Turn your phone off and on again.
  • Clear the Semble data in your Application Settings. To find this varies on devices but generally you go to your Application Manager or Apps menu, scroll down to find the Semble app, select it and then tap Clear Data. When you open Semble again it will have refreshed all your details and information on the phone.
  • If you are trying to do do something other than making a payment or tagging on and off public transport, make sure you have internet connectivity. Try browsing a web site on your phone to check.

In order to use Semble you need to have a phone with an operating system (OS) that has been tested by us and your mobile network provider. Check out compatible phones from 2degrees, Spark and Vodafone. This list is different for Snapper in Semble - check here to see if your phone is compatible.

You can find out the model name, number and operating system (OS) version of your phone in Settings. For Samsung phones go to Settings > More (or System) > About device.

No. Contactless payment terminals have a limited range. Your phone needs to be within a couple of centimetres of the payment terminal for a transaction to take place.

No. The payment terminal will only read a card once per transaction.

The Always On feature has the same level of security that your plastic bank cards have today. As with your plastic cards, any fraudulent transactions made via Semble will be covered by your bank's policy relating to zero liability for customers. Please speak to your bank for more information.

If when you are making a payment the terminal returns the error 'Card type not supported', it may be due to Always On having deactivated itself.  If this happens, open Semble and turn the Always On card off and then back on again to reactivate.

Semble works with the Samsung Galaxy Ace 3 on the majority of contactless terminals around the country and for tagging on and off participating Snapper buses but is currently working intermittently on PAX SP30, S80, and S90 contactless terminals. PAX are working on resolving this issue but if you’re an Ace 3 user we recommend you keep your eye on the terminal type and keep your plastic card with you as back up.
